Holistic Bodywork

My approach to bodywork means that we can work with the emotional and spiritual issues through addressing the physical body.

Holistic bodywork is a healing  technique for both men and women developed combining principles from Asian massage techniques, Tao, breathwork, sound and movement to create a powerful form of therapy that is capable of releasing trauma at a cellular level within the body, to shift emotions and create a deep sense of wellbeing.

Scientific research has shown us that unresolved trauma is held in the body on a physical level. Whilst talking therapy can be very useful, it can only go so far in addressing unresolved trauma unless we include body based therapies. Holistic bodywork addresses these traumas directly and releases the trapped emotional residues, allowing energy to flow freely through the body once more.

Our bodies are talking to us all the time, we just need to listen. Physical symptoms that you are feeling can always be traced back to emotional blockages. Holistic bodywork can help to locate where those blockages are in the body and help to release them.

How can holistic bodywork help me?

I work with the physical body, the energetic or emotional body and the spiritual body.

Holistic bodywork is offered as a supportive modality to enhance health and wellness, and are not meant as an entire approach to health care. If you have any serious medical conditions, please consult your health care provider first.

The intention of a holistic bodywork session is to release trapped, stagnant emotions and traumas.  Bodywork performed during a session is extremely effective and can address a range of symptoms and illnesses including:

  • Stress and tension
  • Depression
  • Addictions
  • Insomnia
  • Body dysmorphia / low body confidence
  • Fear of sex, intimacy or love
  • Difficulty in speaking the truth and resolving conflict
  • Feeling insecure, unable to trust, lacking in confidence

If you are feeling stuck in your life, stuck in your emotions, trapped by your past, unable to shift repetitive patterns, holistic bodywork can be a catalyst for bringing changes to your life.

What happens during a treatment?

Sessions are dictated by the client. The bodywork can be performed clothed or unclothed, depending on where the client feels comfortable. I create a safe, supportive space where clients can build the trust needed in order to go deep.

Many of my clients describe the sessions as “a journey” – and I invite clients to come without expectations so that we can be present with whatever unfolds during this journey.

A session always begins with a consultation to discuss your case history, your goals for treatment and to explain the features and benefits of the bodywork. We may do movement or sound meditations to begin the process of moving the energy in the body. The bodywork is a full body deep tissue massage designed to open the body’s energy pathways and make it possible for stagnant energy to be released.

The sessions involve working with breath, movement and sound – the client is an active participant in the session.

The sessions are carried out on a mat rather than a massage table as this allows the techniques to be carried out effectively. I use warm oil during clothes-off bodywork.

How will I feel after a treatment?

People have a range of responses to treatment: some experience a deep sense of wellbeing; exhaustion is common; uncomfortable emotions can also arise after the massage. It is important to give the treatment time to integrate and not take too much on in the couple of days following the treatment. I give clients information on after care when they come for a session. Sometimes I may recommend working with other professionals for additional support.

How many treatments will I need?

This varies greatly from person to person and depends on your goals.

It is important not to expect everything to be resolved in just one session. Results are best when clients can commit to a number of sessions. For resolving specific issues, I recommend a minimum of 3 sessions spaced 1 month apart.

Holistic Bodywork can be used as part of an ongoing self-care routine.

Can I receive a treatment if I am pregnant?

I do not carry out any massage at all in the first 3 months of pregnancy. However, after three months, the external bodywork can be hugely nurturing and beneficial to a pregnant woman.

When working with pregnant women, the aim is to nurture rather than to bring about release – pregnancy is a time of holding rather than releasing and I work gently with a pregnant body.

Can men receive Holistic Bodywork?

Yes! Whilst the focus of my work is often women because of the pelvic care work that I do, Holistic Bodywork is hugely beneficial for everyone and I welcome men to my practise.
