“The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.” Osho
I can divide my life into 2 halves.
Before I birthed, I was mainly concerned with a hedonistic lifestyle free from responisbilities. I had been a high achiever at school and university but after finishing my education, I was without direction. I wanted to “be” something but I wasn’t sure what, or how. I always wanted to be somewhere else other than the place that I actually was – I travelled extensively and consumed vast quantities of alchol and various illicit substances to take me away from myself.
After the birth of my son in 2011, my life changed forever. At the time I had no idea that birthing was a shamanic initiation for women, nobody spoke about how profound the changes could be. Our society focuses on “getting back to normal” after a baby, when of course there is never any going back.
In the years that followed, I would begin to learn the things about the female body that should be our birthright to know, knowledge that was taken away from us hundreds or even thousands of years ago. I began to honour my body, track my cycles and strengthen my connection with the earth.
I learned the value of sisterhood. I picked up a paintbrush for the first time in 15 years and painted my journey, creating artwork that I am very proud of, some of which graces these pages. You can see more at here.
In 2016, during a traumatic seperation from my partner (which was the best thing we ever did for our now thriving relationship), I began training in tantric bodywork and learned the importance and healing power of touch. To begin with, I did not imagine that I would ever become a practitioner.
At the same time, I began to deepen into my sexuality – this part of me that had lain dormant since the birth of my son. I began to connect with my vagina and my womb, I learned Taoist and Tantric practices, and discovered orgasmic potential in parts of my body that had been previously unconnected with pleasure.
I became passionate about sharing these “secrets” (which should be common knowledge) with other women and I set up Tantric Tools with my amazing friend and colleague Lisa Grezo. The aim of Tantric Tools is to offer tools and information to women to help them explore their internal universe consciously.
My training with Tami Kent allowed me to offer deeper work to women. The Holistic Pelvic Care™ internal massage which she teaches is vital health care for any woman. It added an extra layer of feminine wisdom to the tantric knowledge I had developed.
I decided I wanted to learn The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy® so that i could offer a therapy that worked deeply with the womb without working internally – these gentle, non-invasive techniques are life changing for men, women and children experiencing challenges with their digestive or reproductive anatomy.
The Wheel of Consent work has enriched the work I offer individuals and enabled me to offer transformative tools to couples to deepen their relationships with one another. It provides a frame of safety and trust for the bodywork that I offer.
SInce 2019, I have been offering sacred ceremonies for women – using the tools of breath, movement and sound within the power of the women’s circle to create transformational events.
In 2021, I completed my breathwork facilitation training with Integrative Breath which I began when I realised I wanted to understand more deeply the immense power of the breath and weave this into my offerings.
I am currently undertaking a shamanic practitioner training which combines knowledge of ceremonial space holding, shadow work and shamanic healing practices. My shamanic practices filter into my sacred ceremonies and 1:1 work.
One of the gifts of this course has been an unfolding of my voice which I now understand is a powerful tool. I love to sing and it brings me great joy to share my songs and my voice. I write medicine songs which you can listen to on my YouTube channel or Soundcloud.
I live in a yurt next to a beautiful woodland at Chyan Farm – a community permaculture centre & retreat centre in the wilds of Cornwall where my partner and I are raising our unschooled son. My brilliant and inspiring stepdaughter is now at university in Edinburgh. I feel a deep connection with the earth and this place, with all its challenges, feels so in alignment with the person I aspire to be.
I love surfing, yoga, gymnastics and snowboarding (although it’s been a while!). The place I love to be most in the world is on the beach in the sunshine, be it winter or summer. I swim in the sea all year round.
The journey is ongoing. I spiral each moon as I navigate my perimenopause.
I learn, I create, I love, I despair, I scream, I discover, I deepen, I sob.
I am truly grateful for the life I lead, for my home, my family, my friends and community, my teachers and my time on this earth.
