Tantra
Tantra has become a byword for sex in Western society today. In reality, tantra is much more than this: sex and sexuality are only a small part of the spiritual path of tantra. However, because of the repression of sexuality in Western culture for so long, there is much healing needed in the realm of sexuality and so this aspect of tantric teachings has taken root here.
Tantric Therapy
There are as many different types of tantric treatment as there are tantric practitioners.
I sometimes distance myself from the word “tantra” as there are lots of shadows around tantric movements in Western culture with lack of clarity, abuse, misunderstanding and confusion. However, these practices are hugely powerful and when practices properly and cleanly, are transformational. It is usually lack of attention to boundaries and consent that creates issues. I use the framework of The Wheel of Consent to ensure that clients are always fully in a place of choice and power during a session.
The Tantric Therapy that I practise is a healing and awakening technique that combine principles from Asian massage techniques, Tantra, Tao and Western knowledge to create a powerful form of therapy that is capable of releasing trauma at a cellular level within the body. It is a holistic healing modality that treats the whole of your being.
The intention of a Tantric Therapy session is to release trapped, stagnant emotions and traumas and to help energy flow more freely around the body.
It is not intended as a sexual service, or even intended to instigate the arousal of sexual energy
Tantric Therapy is offered as a supportive modality to enhance health and wellness, and are not meant as an entire approach to health care. If you have any serious medical conditions, please consult your health care provider first.
Bodywork performed during a session is extremely effective and can address a range of symptoms and illnesses including:
- Stress and tension
- Depression
- Addictions
- Insomnia
- Body dysmorphia / low body confidence
- Loss of interest in sex
- Difficulty in experiencing orgasm
- Pain during Intercourse
- Vaginismus (involuntary vaginal contractions/closing of the vagina before sex)
- Fear of sex, intimacy or love
- Difficulty to find a suitable partner or maintain a long-term relationship
- Difficulty in speaking the truth and resolving conflict
- Feeling insecure, unable to trust, lacking in confidence
- Other sexual dysfunction
Kundalini Awakening
Tantric Journey Therapy is useful for people wishing to go deeply into an exploration of their body’s energy system and chakras. The treatment helps the chakras to open and the energy to flow through the body. Over time, this treatment can help to facilitate kundalini awakening.
The Entire Being
Tantric Therapy treats the entire body, including the pelvic area. It can also include internal massage. The vagina is often where trauma, shame and negative emotions are stored in the female body. It is also often the area where trauma is received directly into the body. The vaginal massage or yoni massage helps to release these traumas, awakening the yoni and transforming numbness and pain into pleasure. It is important to note that this is not a sexual massage or a sexual service. Tantra accepts and harnesses sexual energy as a route to higher consciousness. This has been largely misconstrued as meaning that Tantra is focused upon the pursuit of sexual ecstasy – this not the aim of authentic Tantra practitioners.
What happens during a treatment?
A Tantric Therapy session is dictated by the client. It starts and finishes at the point where the client feels comfortable. The bodywork can be performed clothes on or clothes off and may or may not include yoni massage.
A session always begins with a consultation to discuss your case history, your goals for treatment and to explain the features and benefits of the bodywork. We will then practise sound and movement meditations together and some gentle yoga stretches to get the energy moving in the body. We will do some simple but effective connection rituals to make sure that you are feeling safe and comfortable. The bodywork is a deep tissue massage designed to open the body’s energy pathways and make it possible for stagnant energy to be released. If you are having a yoni massage, this takes place at the end of the session and aims to begin to release deeply held traumas, numbness and pain inside the vagina. At the end of the session we will discuss self-care practices that you can take home with you and tools for exploring your sexuality in your own time, either by yourself or with a partner.
How will I feel during the treatment?
This varies widely from person to person and treatment to treatment. The treatment can be very peaceful and relaxing and you may drop into a trance-like state. Powerful emotions can be released during the session and you may experience strong negative emotions. My aim is to create a space where clients feel safe to express any emotions that they feel: tears and anger, sound and body movements are all welcomed in the session. Sometimes the effects of the treatment are more subtle and there are no dramatic effects during the treatment itself but things can move in the days after the treatment. You may feel sexual energy begin to move in your body during the treatment.
How will I feel after a treatment?
People have a range of responses to treatment from ecstatic highs to more challenging processing and negative emotions. It is important to give the treatment time to integrate and not take too much on in the couple of days following the treatment. I give clients detailed information on after care when they come for a session. Sometimes I may recommend working with other professionals for additional support. If you have suffered severe sexual or childhood abuse it is particularly important to have the support of a counsellor when undertaking this work.
How many treatments will I need?
This varies greatly from person to person and depends on your goals. Whilst there can be massive shifts in just one session, sometimes the effects are more subtle. It is important not to expect everything to be resolved in just one session.
How long do the treatments take?
A minimum session is 3 hours. For a really deep Tantric Journey you can book a transformative 5-6 hour session.
